Mom's First Baby

When it's mom's first baby, she may not be letting on how busy or overwhelmed she is. There are some thoughtful gifts out there that you can give to the expecting mother that will show that you were thinking of her. A great book full of tips for the mother is usually nice. However, mom might not be feeling like she has any time to do any reading these days. Think about getting all of your friends with mothering experience to jot down on index cards their best tips for a new mom. Put them all together in some kind of easy to follow order, and mom can just flip to the card she needs for help.

If you know the mother or her family very well, that can be a nice opportunity to give a gift that is more personal. You may know that they have been thinking of renovating and can offer to help her with some details. Or, if you or your husband happen to work in construction and know all about web slings and other materials, you could go ahead and offer to get some of the work started. Offering a gift that involves sparing her time, like helping around the house or making some meals they can keep in their freezer, shows her she's not alone!

If the couple had been the type to go camping and had looked in to cottage weddings for their ceremony, they may be the down to earth types. Sometimes a mother needs to get a lot of new household products for a baby. Save her the time buy giving her a gift basket full of all-natural cleaners that are low on toxins, or a gift basket of baby creams and wipes. There are also adorable feeding, massage and travel all-in-one blankets out there made of natural fibers for soft baby skin.

Keep in mind that the mother still has interests and goals. If you know she's been wanting to take a class online, offer to sign her up for that real estate license course. You can babysit while she studies. Let her know its okay to have a life of her own still, and that you're there to help her keep things balanced.

Speaking of balance, what about their living space? Have they had time to compare the King West lofts they were interested in versus looking in to the details of that interesting mortgages commercial that sounded helpful? If they have just recently been moving or looking in to a new home, you could always give them a gift certificate to have a cleaning professional help them get organized.

Offering a mother that is expecting her first baby help in any way is always appreciated. She may not want to express any concerns she is having, but by being thoughtful and giving her tips on how to stay organized, she is sure to feel comforted and know that there is nothing to worry about. There are only many wonderful experiences to look forward to.
